ABOUT THE ROOTS DETECTIVE
Carrie Van Hoy Currie
My passion for family history began when I was just a little girl. I would sit and listen to the stories of my grandparents, my aunts, my uncles and my third cousins twice removed. I loved all of it. For more than 20 years I have explored the various branches, learning things that were shocking and things that were expected. I have grown through this journey, and feel called upon to share these histories with others.
Like most family historians, I conduct a great deal of my research online, but I also track down information the old fashioned way via libraries, historical societies, special collections and churches. I love the hunt, and get excited over even the smallest bits of information, because sometimes is is that small fact that leads you to a much bigger discovery.
I have a degree in communications from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I currently call Hillsborough, NC home. I share my house with a husband, two crazy boys, two cats and a dog named Scooby.
